The purpose of this blog is to inform school districts in British Columbia about the state of E-Books, E-Readers and the implementation issues surrounding the usage of these new technologies and formats. While there is much excitement, engagement and interest in exploring the implementation of E-Books as part of a school district’s digital resources, there is also much confusion and frustration over lack of a clear direction on how best to implement and support these devices and formats.
Although we’ve also posted a pdf version on the ERAC website, we decided to include the work in the Commons to support community dialogue and collective knowledge about this subject. ERAC members will be able to make postings on any of the topics found in this report. You will need to log in or register if you have not yet done so.
The hope is that by exploring these devices, formats, distribution methods, licensing issues and available content, there will be some suggested solutions and ideas on how to best capture these new technologies for implementation within our schools in the near future.
This report is really helpful! Will you be adding more devices going forward?
Excellent idea! Right now we’ve only included E-Readers that can be purchased in Canada today. Lots of options available in the US, and hopefully more in Canada will be coming!
