We have a new blog called eBooks! The purpose of this blog is to inform school districts in British Columbia about the state of E-Books, E-Readers and the implementation issues surrounding the usage of these new technologies and formats. As well, we want provide a forum whereby we can share questions, answer and stories about how some districts are dealing with this new technology.
In this blog, you’ll find info on e- reader options in Canada, a comparison table of low to high end devices, licencing options, guidelines for districts and more.
Although we’ve also posted a pdf version on the ERAC website, we decided to include the work in the Commons to support community dialogue and collective knowledge about this subject. Information on the blog is available to the public but only ERAC members will be able to make postings on any of the topics found in this report. You will need to log in or register if you have not yet done so.
The hope is that by exploring these devices, formats, distribution methods, licensing issues and available content, there will be some suggested solutions and ideas on how to best capture these new technologies for implementation within our schools in the near future.
The ERAC white paper on “E-Books, E-Readers and School Libraries” is excellent! Another great source of information about eBooks is at: http://www.thedigitalshift.com/2012/04/ebooks/an-ebook-primer-many-small-libraries-are-still-just-getting-started-with-ebooks-heres-a-helpful-guide-on-those-first-steps/
