cyrijones commented on the post, The 5 Part Essay…. too rigid for today’s students?, on the site Maryjanne's Blog 3 months, 2 weeks ago
I liked your article and agree we have to be careful not to just get distracted by sometimes shallow, disjointed multimedia. Teaching in post-secondary, I’m amazed at how few students in their senior years are […]

Good point. That should have had more prominence. I think LMS make the most sense at the largest geographical scale possible to minimize the silo problems. Some jurisdictions are finding the LMS does good job of managing the administrative side of things but doesn’t do as good a job as we previously thought with enhancing [...]

I agree we need to take into consideration the prevailing platforms. When choosing between for example Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office 365 or Live@edu, maybe it would tip to Microsoft. I know open source has some baggage as being difficult to use but I think recently some of the tools like WordPress are [...]

An alternative to a focus on Learning Management Systems or Learning Object Repositories for managing learning content and encouraging collaboration and sharing is to develop a locally controlled social network. Do the components on the “big picture” architecture address your needs (from Slides 18-20 of the presentation). Slide 20 (below) is a first draft of a vision for a possible “K-20 strategy”. provincial-digital-learners-strategy-K-20-draft A number of other jurisdictions are moving towards more of a state or province wide approach to core learning…[Read more] -

Thanks for sharing the paper from Wisconson, very interesting and feels like similar ideas are taking shape around the world. I think you are right that a big driver is the students trying different learning approaches. I like the deep learning and critical thinking focus you mention too so it’s not just focused on the [...]
